In 1998, Dave and Eilene Curtiss planted some 80 rosebushes in front of the church as the Church was planning forward to its 100-year celebration in 2000. They selected Floribunda type roses in color rows of red, yellow, white, pink/white, mauve, and pink.
Roses were Our Blessed Mary's favorite flower, whose petals are used to make rosaries and are named many times in the bible. As members of the Portland Rose Society, Dave and Eilene raised and care for over 250 rosebushes at their home. In 2003, the Portland Royal Rosarian's awarded the rose garden the award "Best Entry Outside of Portland". When Dave passed away in 2011, Eilene turned the Rose Garden into our current memorial rose garden. Since that time, many new rose bushes have been added in memory of a lost parishioner, family member and priest.
